How Our E-Mail Feature  Works

Visitors to an inmate's personal web site ad will have the option of clicking on a
link that is placed at the bottom of the ad.   This will open a mail program
addressed to the inmates mailbox.  Type and forward a letter to the inmate by
simply hitting the "SEND" button!

                                                            Hints:
1.  Calm his natural apprehension of "Who is this stranger?"  and "How did they
get my address?" by telling him that you saw his ad on brothersinprison.com (
DO
NOT
make ANY reference to this or any other web site when writing a prisoner in
any of the state institutions in Fla. or MO.  This may subject them to punishment.)
2.  Write an introductory letter explaining basically who you are and what you are
about, inviting him into a correspondence friendship. Do not divulge personal
information you are unwilling for a stranger to know.   "You are cute" is NOT an
introductory letter.  If that is all you have to say, then spend your own $.41    I 'll
not spend mine just to tell him that.
3.
Provide him with a name and address so he is able to respond to you.  If
you are uncomfortable giving out your address, use a P.O.box.   That is an
inexpensive way to protect your privacy.
4. No letters will be forwarded except those that are for the purpose of
establishing
an introduction
for the purpose of friendship   If a letter is for solicitation,
advertising, or any other business purpose, it will not be sent.  "Establishing an
introduction" means we will  gladly forward your
first message.   Do not use this as
a regular substitution for postal correspondence, or to write someone you already
know.   The site cannot afford the postage on all incoming mail for 500+ inmates.
5.  Offensive mail, including ( but not limited to) mail that is abusive, demeaning, or
threatening, and mail that is sexually explicit or contains foul language will not be
forwarded.   Potentially offensive mail, such as a letter from a male to an inmate
who has specified he wants to hear from females only,  will not be forwarded.   If
you want to send any of these types of letters you can use the snail mail address
at the top of the inmate's  page using  your own stamp, not mine.   If your e-mail is
not going to be forwarded, you will be notified.
6.  E-mail messages should not include "smileys" nor attachments.
Do not
include web or e-mail addresses
or hyperlinks to web pages. The inmate cannot
use them as
he has no Internet access

E-mail you send will arrive here at this office almost instantly.    I will
download  the email letter and print it as a regular letter so it is allowed at the
facility, and then forward it to the inmate.

Because some institutions (including all state institutions in New York) do not
allow this kind of mail forwarding, not all ads will have an e-mail link.
Please remember that inmates can respond only by
regular mail, not by e-mail.  They do not have
Internet access.
Inmate list
back to.......
(As of Sat., Apr 25, 2007, only about 15% of the e-mails were actually sent to
the inmates. The other 85% did not give an address the inmate could
respond to, or they were single-sentence-type "Hello" messages that are an
irritation to both the inmate and to the mail rooms.  No U.S. inmate can
access the Internet to use e-mail)
